The VanOrman Lab at Hope College synthesizes halide perovskite nanocrystals and uses ultrafast spectroscopy to monitor the effects of modulating and engineering the nanocrystal size, composition (through metal dopants), and organic ligands. Currently, we're studying a variety of paramagnetic metal dopants, chiral surface ligands to impart chirality onto the perovskite nanocrystals, and finding new ways to synthesize lead-free perovskite nanocrystals. Beyond synthesizing and engineering these materials, we use ultrafast time-resolved PL emission spectroscopy to monitor the optical effects of composition and surface modulations.
